SEATTLE (AP) - New York Knicks guard Quentin Richardson has left the team because of a family emergency.

The Knicks said Richardson left for Chicago late Monday, but would not say why he left the team. Knicks spokesman Jonathan Supranowitz, in Seattle where New York was taking on the SuperSonics on Tuesday, said it is uncertain when Richardson will return.

Madison Square Garden network reported during its telecast of the game that Richardson's brother was shot in Chicago on Monday.

A Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said a Lee Richardson, 31, of Chicago, died of multiple gunshot wounds on Monday.
